Embracing Sustainability: Renewable Energy at Beer Head Caravan Park
Nestled along the stunning Jurassic Coast in Devon, Beer Head Caravan Park offers visitors a peaceful retreat surrounded by natural beauty. However, beyond its picturesque scenery, the park is dedicated to the use of renewable energy.
One of the park’s main eco-friendly initiatives is the installation of solar panels. These panels are placed on the roofs of buildings within the park many installed over a dozen years ago. Our reception has solar panels integrated into the roof to make them less conspicuous. Five years ago a 100kW system was installed in a nearby field with over 200 metres of thick gauge electrical cable buried weaving between the caravans to reach the three-phase epicentre at the bistro that feeds out to the park. While most panels are built in China and there is a carbon cost to having them shipped to the UK, solar energy is a clean, renewable resource and panels installed several decades ago have been recorded as still generate power today. By generating its own electricity in the daylight hours, the park attempts to minimize its environmental impact while providing a sustainable holiday experience for guests.
The park also adopts other Eco-friendly practices to enhance its green credentials. Our water is mostly sourced from our borehole. A rainwater harvesting system collect rainwater for use in toilet flushing at the toilet block, reducing water consumption. Solar lighting is installed throughout the park to minimize electricity use. Furthermore, air source heat pumps are used on our Lookout Tower and Signal house.
Beer Head Caravan Park believes that while the jury maybe out on the efficiency of solar in a country like ours - with the long winter nights and patchy weather - sustainability is hugely important and without this initial transition period, the road to total renewable energy cannot be built.
By investing in renewable energy, Beer Head Caravan Park not only helps protect the environment but also offers guests a chance to enjoy a greener, more responsible holiday. This commitment helps ensure the natural beauty of the Jurassic Coast remains preserved for future generations to explore and enjoy.
We hope our commitment to renewable energy and eco-friendly practices demonstrates that responsible tourism can go hand in hand with a memorable holiday experience.
